 1. What is style?

A style is a set of formats that can be applied to selected pages, text, frames, and other elements in the document to quickly change their appearance.

 2. What are the different types of styles supported by Writer?

  • Page styles include margins, headers and footers, borders and backgrounds.
  • Paragraph styles control all aspects of a paragraph’s appearance, such as text alignment, tab stops, line spacing, and borders
  • Character styles affect selected text within a paragraph, such as the font and size of text, or bold and italic formats.
  • Frame styles are used to format graphic and text frames, including wrapping type, borders, backgrounds, and columns.
  • Numbering styles apply similar alignment, numbering or bullet characters, and fonts to numbered or bulleted lists.

3. Name the different ways in which styles can be applied?

Styles can be applied using the Styles and Formatting window and using Fill Format mode 

4.  What is the function of Fill Format mode?

Fill format mode is used to apply a style to many different areas quickly without having to go back to the Styles and Formatting window and double-click every time.

5. Name the different ways in which image can be inserted in a writer document.

The different ways in which image can be inserted in a writer document are

  • Drag and Drop method
  • From File
  • From The Clipboard
  • Using a Scanner
  • From the Gallery

6. What do you mean by arrangement?

Arrangement refers to the placement of a graphic on an imaginary vertical axis. It controls how graphics are stacked upon each other or relative to the text.

7. What do you mean by alignment?

Alignment refers to the vertical or horizontal placement of a graphic in relation to the chosen anchor point.

8. What do you mean by anchoring?

Anchoring refers to the reference point for the graphics. This point could be the page, or frame where the object is present. 

9. What do you mean by Text wrapping?

Text wrapping refers to the relation of graphics to the surrounding text, which may wrap around the graphic on one or both sides.

10.  Define cropping

Cropping refers to removing unwanted areas from top, bottom, left and right side of an image.

11. What is a template?

A template is a model which can be used to create other documents

12. What type of formatting is required to create a table of content?        

Writer’s table of contents feature is used to create an automated table of contents from the headings in the document.

13. What is the default level of headings which TOC can evaluate?

By default, Writer evaluates 10 levels of headings when it builds the table of contents.

14. Define Mail Merge.

Mail merge feature is used to create a batch of documents that are personalized for each recipient.
